Dick Tracy (1945 film)[]

In the 1945 feature film Dick Tracy (starring Morgan Conway), Splitface was a man named Alexis Banning. He was a revenge-seeking killer who hunted down the members of the jury who had convicted him of murdering his girlfriend some time before.

Splitface's alias was due to a large scar that ran diagonally across his face. He had gotten the scar during a fight with another inmate while in prison.

Splitface was played by Mike Mazurki.

  • Splitface is one of several characters from the Dick Tracy serials and feature films from the 1930s and 40s that have been incorporated or referred to by the current creative team (see also Cueball and Gruesome).
  • The character's background in the strip seems to be the same as in the film, including his crimes and capture.
  • When Splitface embarked on his revenge spree, it was not made clear if he had been released from prison or had escaped.
  • When Tracy and Pat Patton referred to Splitface, they identified him as having been "put away". They did not specifically state if he was alive or deceased.
