The Slot Machine Ring was a group led by Charley Hardly and his sons Uno, Duo, Trey, and Quad with Uno as the field leader. They hired Popsie's Mother to buy Headache's slot machine factory. They eventually killed both Headache and Popsie's Mother, and were tracked down by the police.

When the gang abducted Popsie's Mother, Popsie noticed that their leader was wearing an expensive ruby ring that was missing several stones. Dick Tracy and the police sent out circulars to jewelers in the city to look for such a ring. Uno took the ring to a jeweler to be repaired, and police planted a Teleguard camera in his car while the jeweler stalled him. The police were able to use images from the camera to determine the location of the gang's hideout, and a raiding party was quickly organized.

Duo, Trey and Quad were killed in a shootout and Charley died of a heart attack. Uno survived for a brief period, but eventually succumbed to his gunshot wounds in a hospital. The Ring's money, a massive stockpile of coins that Tracy could not prove was ill-gotten, was inherited by Charley's brother. It was stolen by The Rhodent and was later struck by a bolt of lightning which caused it to be fused into a solid piece of metal. This large metal piece was eventually purchased by the state's Governor to be displayed as a symbol of his anti-gambling crusade.

  • It is not clear if the Slot Machine Ring was connected to the Apparatus, but it is not unlikely.
