Hound-Dog was a stray dog of indeterminate breed. He had large spots and a friendly disposition.

Hiding out with B.O.[]

Hound-Dog befriended B.O. Plenty during the time that Plenty believed that he was wanted for a murder that had been committed by Sketch Paree. After an aborted suicide attempt, Plenty knocked himself unconscious and awoke to find Hound-Dog licking his face.

Hound-Dog stayed with Plenty while he lived in the woods, scavenging for food and shelter. Dick Tracy and the police were led to Plenty's hideout (during the Mousey Rattner case) when Hound-Dog stole a valuable mink coat and took it to Plenty.

When B.O. was reunited with his family, Hound-Dog became the Plentys' pet, along with "HeyYou".

  • Hound-Dog was extremely loyal to B.O. Plenty, despite the fact that Plenty habitually kicked him.
  • Unlike most of the other dogs depicted in the strip, Hound-Dog had a decidedly cartoon-ish appearance.
  • In 1984, the Plentys stated that they had no dog, indicating that Hound-Dog had either died or been given away.
