BugBailey

Bug Bailey was an original character created for the 1990 "Dick Tracy" feature film. He was played by actor Michael J. Pollard. The character wore glasses, had a lumpy nose and oversized ears.

Character Biography

Bug Bailey was the tech expert of the Police Department and according to the prequel comic was the creator of the 2-Way Wrist Radio (rather than Diet Smith). Bug's role took place after a ruse search of Big Boy's club enabledPat Patton and Sam Catchem to place a listening device in Big Boy's conference room by digging through the attic vault floor. Bug maintained audio serviellence and reported Big Boy's activities to Tracy and the PD. With this information, Dick Tracy was able to beat Big Boy to the punch on shakedowns, gambling, and Texie Garcia's brothel. Most of his men were arrested and Big Boy's empire was crumbling.

A short time later Big Boy was ranting to Pruneface about Tracy being able to anticipate their every move and was enraged. Pruneface threatened to go over Big Boy's head and kill Tracy himself, but at that moment, Bug accidently spilled his coffee and it leaked on the the conference table. Quietly, they both discovered they were being bugged. Big Boy picked up the phone and made a fake call telling one of his men to get over the Southside warehouse for a big payoff. Bug reported this to Tracy just as Tess was telling him she was leaving town. At that moment Pruneface and Influence kidnapped Bug and tied him up about to get a cement bath where Lips got his. Bug was being used as bait to get Tracy. Once Tracy got there, they turned on the cement mixer and as Bug was facing death, Tracy quietly released him, using his coat on a hook as a diversion. Influence and Pruneface were poised to kill a cement covered Tracy, but Pruneface was shot to death by the Blank, and scared off Influence.
